Dronfield Footpaths and Bridleways Society was formed in 1989 to save and improve local paths. We now have 140 members and run a series of of regular, all year round, guided walks.

Working with landowners and the appropriate authorities (Derbyshire County Council and North-East Derbyshire District Council) our volunteers turn out to survey, clear and repair local paths and, where appropriate, provide waymarks. Working alongside The Dronfield Rotary Walks Society, we give financial support and are active in the development and maintenance of all footpaths and bridleways in the Parish of Dronfield. When called upon, the Society’s workforce also undertakes projects in neighbouring parishes.

Please contact us if you would like to join the Society (subscriptions are £4 for individuals or £6 for couples), volunteer to help survey or maintain paths or lead walks or if you simply want to report on the condition of local paths.

SITUATIONS VACANT

The Society is looking for more volunteers to help maintain our busy programme of work. In particular, we need:-

COMMITTEE MEMBERS
2 or 3 people to help run the Society and plan our various events
The committee meets between 3 and 5 times a year (and we try and avoidSummer meetings, so we can get out and enjoy our local paths!)
No special skills needed - just a willingness to help

PROJECT WORK

Carrying out practical work to maintain and repair our local paths is a key part of our activities.

We need 2 or 3 people to identify jobs, get landowners permissions, organise materials, plan working parties and see the work is carried out safely.

We have relied on just one person to do this in the past, but now feel that its perhaps best to share the work round.

Some of the work requires outdoor and practical skills, whilst other aspects are more admin type - so something for everyone!!

We work closely with the County Council Countryside Service rangers, who can provide technical support and give, eg, health and safety training, so we are looking for interest rather than in depth expertise

WALK WRITERS

We are looking to build up a list of walk guides , similar to those we have produced as leaflets.

But printing is a costly and time consuming task, so we thought we might see what response we get from having one or two on our web site.

Circular walks, wildflower or bird walks, easy access walks, pushchair (& wheelchair) friendly walkS are all possibilities

Identifying and writing up the routes is just the thing for the Winter months ! And the work can be done to your own deadlines

PHOTO LIBRARIAN

We have quite a few photographs of Society activities. But they are all over the place. Is anyone willing to be responsible for collecting and cataloguing them?

We use them from time to time in displays or for publicity purposes. There will be various formats - prints and digital

If you can help, or want more information, please contact David Blackburn or Roger Slee at dfbs@dronfieldfootpaths.org.uk.
